The Waka

WAKA
On the sacred vessel I sit amongst my whanau. “kamate kamate koara koara tenetiwhitua uru uru na whiti tera” we exclaim. We push the glittery water and it feels like we are being tugged by the wind. The lightning and thunder came around us causing the waves to move the waka and go faster. We grab onto the oars tightly and push back to not get injured.
“HEE”. My fellow warriors can’t stand the taste of blood. The beautifully carved waka cuts through the water like a taiaha. The tattoos on each side represent our mother and fathers history. We poke out our tongues and eyes “kamate kamate kora kora”
